Promote! - Promote! - Promote!

OK, STEP 1. Build Your Fan Base
No matter how good you are at what you do, Venues and Promoters are going to want to know ...
How Many Ticket Buyers Are YOU Going to Bring to The Table?
After all, they are in it to make a profit.
It would be a waste of their efforts and money if you end up playing to an empty room!
So How do you get Fans? ... Friends are a good place to start.
If they enjoy your performance then they should be willing to help you get going by buying a ticket or paying a cover charge.
House Concerts are a good way to get more people exposed to your performance.
Get your friends to host a concert at their house.
Do it for FREE! (put out a tip jar)
Right now you are more in need of fans than you are worried about how much money you will make.
Make sure you promote Joining Your Fan Club.
Collect names and email address so that you can let your fan base know when and where you are performing.
The more the better!
Once you have built up a fan base of 20 or more serious fans, go to step 2.

STEP 2. Create your EPK / Electronic Press Kit
In today's digital world an EPK is essential.
Venue owners, booking agents and promoters are much more likely to pay attention to you if you make it EASY for them to do so.
Sending them an email with a link to your EPK does this.
Simply clicking on the link will show them everything they need to know about you.
★  LINKS TO YOUR MUSIC
★ ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
★ PROFESSIONAL LOGOS, PHOTOS AND ALBUM ARTWORK
★ HIGH-QUALITY MUSIC VIDEOS
★ EMBEDDED LINKS TO YOUR ASSETS (website, facebook, youtube etc)

STEP 3. Find a Place to Perform
Finding the RIGHT PLACE to perform is critical to your success.
If you are a Black Sabbath cover band, you are not likely to get booked into an Acoustic Easy Listening venue.
Nor would you be much of a hit if you did.
Do your homework and research the venues in your area to see what venues fit with YOUR PERFORMANCE.
Where do other performers, similar to you, perform?
Here are some of the options you can check out:
★  Bars & Night Clubs
★  Restaurants
★  Hotels
★  Theaters
★  Community Arts Centers
★  Schools
★  Churches
★  Retirement or Nursing Homes
★  House Concerts
★  Festivals and Fairs
★  RV Resorts
★  RV Rallies

If you are a performer doing "cover songs" you will need to make sure that the venue is properly licensed for this purpose. READ THIS

STEP 4. Work Out the Details
So, you've found the venue, now comes the "management" part.
★  Set the date and time of your performance.
★  Agree to your arrival time. Remember to allow for set-up and sound-check.
★  Establish who is providing the technical equipment needed for your performance.
★  Establish how much .. when .. and how you will be paid.
★  Establish how the event will be promoted and who will pay the promoting costs.
★  Establish who will be selling tickets, who will get them printed and how they will be made available.

STEP 5. Create Fliers and Posters
Your printed promotional materials need to create a "Great First Impression".
★  Have professional quality pictures taken for promotional purposes.
★  Get professionally designed fliers and posters.
★  Have your promo materials printed on quality paper by a professional print shop.
★  Make sure you include What, Where, When, How Much and How to Buy Tickets on all of your promotional materials.
★  Get 8.5x11 and 11x17 posters made, fliers are typically "half-sheets" 5.5x8.5

STEP 6. Promote Your Event!
Hang your event posters in as many different places as you are allowed.
Find a good location to pass out your fliers and get your friends and fans to do so also.
Especially target places where YOUR potential audience will see them.
Use Social Media! Facebook, YouTube, Twitter etc.
Remember to include What, Where, When, How Much and How to Buy Tickets.
